Neville Dilkes orchestral conductor and organist. First winner of the Watney Sargent Award for conductors. Encouraged by professional musicians he founded the Kettering Symphony Orchestra, Opera da Camera, and later The English Sinfonia. He retired to France with his wife in 1998 and has recently turned to writing. In 2021 he published his first book, a diary of his life titled I Bought a Hall. This was quickly followed by Thoughts for Tomorrow which gives opinions on life through the eyes of a 93-year-old. This final book Thoughts from the Rostrum is not only autobiographical but covers various aspects of music, a subject which has dominated his life.
